Rain or Shine set up an interesting date with Barangay Ginebra in the next round after beating the ousted Alaska squad, 91-85, Sunday at the end of the elimination phase of the 2011-12 PBA Philippine Cup at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum

Even without head coach Yeng Guiao and top rookie Paul Lee, the Elasto Painters just had enough tools to thwart the upset-conscious Aces and end their elimination stage campaign in back-to-back wins for a 9-5 record.

Beau Belga and Ronjay Buenafe each had 14 points for Rain or Shine to lead the team’s balanced scoring.

IT WAS not exactly a reprise of their first meeting, but Petron Blaze still came out on top through the skin of its teeth against Alaska Tuesday.

The Boosters repeated over the Aces, 90-85, to come closer to realizing a Top 2 finish in the eliminations of the PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Arwind Santos scored a game-high 24 points and combined with Danny Ildefonso and Denok Miranda for the biggest plays in the stretch that enabled Petron to unleash a decisive 7-0 windup.

It was a perfect November for Petron Blaze.

The Boosters came through with clutch plays down the stretch and defeated stubborn Alaska, 90-85, for their sixth straight win in the 2011 PBA Philippine Cup Tuesday night at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Petron ended this month unscathed after six games and improved their mark to 9-3, boosting its chances for the twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinal round.

Arwind Santos had 24 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals, Alex Cabagnot added 20 markers, six boards and five assists while Dennis Miranda contributed 14 off the bench as they hit the crucial shots in the closing minutes.

PETRON Blaze coach Ato Agustin knows Alaska may be down, but definitely not out. That is why he keeps stressing to his players the importance of being on their toes.

“Hindi kami puwedeng mag-relax,” said Agustin on the eve of his streaking Boosters’ rematch Tuesday with an Alaska squad on the brink in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

“Ang Alaska mahirap na kalaban, lalo na ngayong kailangang-kailangan nilang manalo,” added Agustin. “Kaya kailangan ding handa kami. Kailangan mas aggressive kami at di puwedeng aalis sa gameplan.”

Brgy. Ginebra knows it can beat its opponents with lights-out shooting. It can play tough defense too.

On this particular night, both facets of the Kings' game aligned which proved enough to thwart an attempt by the Alaska Aces to turn the game around for an 85-77 victory that kept the former back on track in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum Wednesday.

The Alaska Aces are playing their third game in six days but they are still hoping to make it three wins in a row as a belated birthday present for Alaska team owner Wilfred Steven Uytengsu turned 50 Tuesday.

The Aces take on a skidding Barangay Ginebra squad Wednesday as the race and positioning for the PBA Philippine Cup playoffs shifts to high gear going into the last three weeks of the elimination round.

Coming off wins over Powerade and Shopinas.com, Alaska takes on the Kings in the 5:15 p.m. first game at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Alaska needed a couple of defensive stops to repulse the stubborn Shopinas five, 86-80, for its first back-to-back wins in the 2011 PBA Philippine Cup Sunday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Sonny Thoss and Jay-R Reyes had key blocks in the final stretch as the Aces weathered the uprising of the Clickers, who absorbed their 11th straight loss in as many games.

Thoss had 15 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 blocks in an all-around performance while Reyes also had a sterling game with 13 markers, 17 boards and 4 blocks as Alaska tied Powerade for 8th spot with 3-7 slate.

Alaska Milk may have found a new player that fits perfectly well to the power forward position -- Mac Baracael.

With Baracael playing the position to the hilt, the Aces totally outgunned the Powerade Tigers, 121-111, Friday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum in one of the most high-scoring matches in the PBA Philippine Cup.

The energetic Baracael, who also played the No. 4 post with former team Smart Gilas Pilipinas, exploded with a career-best 22 points off the bench in an impressive six-of-10 shooting from the field and nine-of-11 from the free throw line that went with six rebounds, two assists and some solid defense.

Even a breakout game from top pick JVee Casio couldn’t help Powerade in stopping its losing woes.

Casio had his best offensive game yet with 26 points but Alaska had more balanced scoring and took a much-needed 121-111 win over to the Tigers to keep its quarterfinal hopes flickering in the 2011-12 PBA Philippine Cup Friday night at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

It was the only second win for the Aces in 9 games, but they are now just a shade behind the Tigers (3-7) for the 8th and final quarterfinal slot.

Tony dela Cruz had his best scoring game in the last four seasons with 23 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the field on top of his 8 rebounds and helped in guarding Powerade’s scoring dynamo Gary David.
